The Purpose of This Book. Our idea, in preparing this little book, is to set forth, in clear and simple language, the main features of the law relating to trade-marks and to illustrate its application by specific examples of well-known trade-marks now in use. Many words in this book are written in italic to draw attention to them. Literally the word means "relating to Italy or its people." It is now applied to a kind of type in which the letters slope toward the right. The type was called italic because it was dedicated to the states of Italy by the inventor, Manutius, about the year
